Air-sealing refers to the application of weather stripping such as caulking and expanding foam to close off wall cracks and spaces around windows and doors, as well as in walls and ceilings for the purpose of reducing air leakages and consequent heat loss in a home.

Weatherizing refers to the practice of protecting a home from the elements—including: sunlight, precipitation, temperature, and wind—through modifications that typically reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency. This is done by adding insulation, storm windows and doors, etc.
