Rate Your Home
To manage your energy – you must first measure it
A first step in learning how to reduce your energy bill is to understand the energy performance of your home and the potential for energy savings.
Complete the scorecard by downloading the pdf from this page and mailing it in.
Many of us know the estimated mpg rating for the vehicle we drive but have little or no understanding of the overall energy performance of our home. Our FREE Home Energy Scorecard will provide you with actual energy ratings based on past energy consumption. Your ratings will be compared with other households in your neighborhood giving you an understanding of the potential for energy savings.
That score is based on your home's insulation levels, the air leakage rate, the efficiency of the heating system, and the occupant lifestyle (thermostat settings, etc.). The Home Energy Score is calculated by totaling the amount of energy needed to heat your home over an entire heating season and is adjusted on seasonal weather data.
Here is what you will need to complete the DEEP Home Energy Scorecard:
- Open the FREE, fillable pdf "Home Energy Scorecard Intake Form" on this web page
- Fill out the form completely. You will need to know information such as:
- Total square footage of your home including the basement area. (You may be able to contact your county or municipal assessor to obtain this information, and use our helpful Measuring Tips tool)
- The primary heating fuel type (natural gas, fuel oil, propane or electric, etc)
- Your secondary space heating fuel type.* Only include heating sources you use more than 2-3 days a week.
- Annual heating fuel consumption in total cost and number of units from July 2009 thru June 2010.**
- natural gas = ccf or therms
- electricity = kWh
- fuel oil and propane = gallons
- wood = full cord
*For use of wood, do not include recreational fireplace use. For electricity, only provide information if you have 2 or more rooms that use electic heat for more than 2-3 days out of a week.
**If you do not have records of your past energy consumption, you may need to contact your energy supplier or utility for this information. Many utilities offer access to billing and usage history on their website with use of your account number.
